International Solar Decathlon Competition 2018
From December 2016 to the Summer of 2017 Avery Zhao was working on the Solar Decathlon project as a Fine Arts member of the Montreal team. The Fine Arts team researched and created out of the Topological Media Lab.
Avery participated in Research and Development mainly on the two projects Liquid Light and Shadow Play.

Original description of the overall project:
“This competition entry is a joint project between McGill University Architecture and Concordia Fine Arts, JMSB and Engineering. The Solar Decathlon is an international event that combines student and faculty teams to “DESIGN, CONSTRUCT, AND EXHIBIT a net zero energy capable house”. The final house will be judged on quantitative and qualitative metrics of sustainable performance and design, and will also be exhibited to over one million members of the public on the competition site in Dezhou, China. Our competition entry is called The Deep-Performance Dwelling (DPD).
Concordia’s Studio Arts department will be involved in designing responsive and interactive installations, designing the exhibition space and creating opportunities for cultural exchange and learning through exhibits, graphics, video projections, and interventions. The aim will be to communicate and interpret architectural data through physical and visual artistic manifestations, and to design and create on-site installations and exhibition spaces.” – Project Website: http://teammtl.ca/index.html
